was reminded of a conversation I had with Bob many years at an IARU Region-1 Conference that I should enter the BERU Contest instead

of messing around on the VHF,UHF & SHF bands. 

Well Bob, I finally did it! 

A very low key effort. I slung up a 400ft doublet to the top of an extended stub-mast on top of one of my towers, up at 90ft, sloping down to

around 50ft and an IC-7300.  Before the contest I was thinking that I might work a couple VK’s and maybe a ZL if I was really lucky.

The start of Saturday was really slow. I was just dipping in and out really.  Anyway, I managed to work many of the travellers and others such 

as 7Q9, ZS1, 5Z4, 3B8, ZF, J38 & VU.  Best of all though was 13 x VK contacts and 8 x ZL contacts on 40m & 20m. So I was well pleased. 

I’ll definitely be back again next year. Might even have a beam instead of a bit of wire!
