VP5 Upgrades

There have been upgrades since 2020. (P3, SteppIR controller, etc.) Reconfiguring SteppIR to a dipole on high bands is definitely not a good idea. NNE heading plus 180 degree button gives good coverage in CQWW and WPX. Pileups galore! Contact me with any specific station questions.

Great destination for BERU Dxpeditioners. Several flights per week from London. Good propagation to NA, EU and Far East from broad, north facing ocean views. Providenciales (“Provo”) is the main island with the airport, good shopping, quality hotels, condos and villas. More rustic beach front properties are found on Middle Caicos, Grand Turk and other islands and cays. There is one fully equipped rental station in the islands owned by Jim, K4QPL. www.harbourrockvilla.com or search VP5M on www.QRZ.com or www.3830scores.com Turks and Caicos does not recognize CEPT licensing, but Jim will arrange your VP5 visitor license whether or not you are staying at his villa. Email: k4qpl2 at gmail.com If you book your own accommodation on Provo, for best propagation be sure your QTH is on the north side of the east-west ridge or “backbone” of the island.

G’day RSGB HFCC

Here are the two Australian teams for the Commonwealth Contest 2024.

Australia One

Kevin VK6T (VK6LW)

Barry VK2BJ

Allan VK2GR

Alan VK4M (VK4SN)

Bernd VK1A/4

Australia Two

Alan VK7BO

Phil VL6M (VK6GX)

Steve VJ3A (VK3JA)

Graeme VK5GG

Steve VL6T (VK6VZ)

We are delighted to welcome Graeme VK5GG to the teams for the first time. Graeme is an ex-RAAN telegraphist and a keen contributor to the CC over the last couple of years.

Our steadfast coordinator/MC Allan VK2GR has already submitted our list of HQ stations for this year’s event, which are as follows:

VK2WIA, Dave VK2WQ and Patrick VK2PN

VK3WIA, Lee VK3GK

VK4WIA, Keith VK4TT

VK5WIA, Grant VK5GR

VK6WIA, Peter VK6RZ

VK7WIA, Martin VK7GN

It is great to welcome back Martin VK7GN with his great CW operation and excellent station in Tasmania as VK7WIA, but sadly we have lost Andrew VK1WIA (VK1DA) in the ACT this year, owing to illness.

I’d like to pay tribute to Andrew who has provided the CC with this rare Australian state by his portable operation as VK1WIA for several years. We all hope you make a good recovery, Andrew.

Let’s hope for some excellent conditions – and a contest full of keen entrants.
