Preliminary participation 2024

These are early statistics from the entries so far. 2024 was slightly below average level of participation.

Open entries are about average ( based on the past 11 years ) but Restricted are below average

Entries by region. UK, ZL and the Rest of the Commonwealth are below average but VE and VK are at expected average levels

And the percentage of entrants using assistance continues to increase

Dont read too much into all of this as the data has plenty of noise in it.

Here is some new analysis of leading stations in BERU from Camb_Hams. It was inspired by Andy G4KNO and thanks to David G0LRD for this data ( and his Python version )

Hello Bob,

I was very pleased to receive the results of the 2023 Commonwealth Contest a few days ago. In the past I have often struggled to make more than a few tens of contacts in the contest so this year I was very surprised and excited to make 160 contacts, about 100 more that I have ever achieved before. For the first time conditions were such that I could operate as a “run” station instead of strictly “search and pounce”. From my QTH near Whitehorse it is also difficult to make contacts in AfricaI so it was very special to contact 5Z4VJ in Kenya. I also really appreciate the summary I received that shows my errors. I think these summaries are really helpful because they show common errors that suggest improvements for next time.

At the time of the Commonwealth Contest the weather here is often cold with morning temperatures in the mid minus 30C range, although it tends to warm up quite a lot by the afternoons. It is nice to be inside enjoying the contest and the sense of friendly comradeship that seems to me to be a feature of this contes.

Hi Bob and all

The following software supports the updated mults (addition of 5V, TR and removal of Z2 for the 2023 running on the contest):

  • Win-test v4.46 (if in doubt, there is CTY_CMW.DAT in the Win-test repo with the updated mults listing)
  • DXLog – confirmed in the current version as of Feb 2023.
  • N1MM+ v1-0-9826 onwards (version dated 7th March 2023).
    • NOTE: The previous version still included Z2 as a mult. TR and 5V are included as mults.
  • SD – unconfirmed. Not mentioned in v21.80 release notes.
  • Skookumlogger – although updated, the app may not appear in the App Store before the contest.
