March 13 was cold (-25 C) and snowy here north of Whitehorse, Yukon, so it was a great day to be inside participating in this most enjoyable contest.  Here the contest began at 3 AM local time (10 Z) and I was pleased to hear a few VK and ZL stations at that time on 40 m.  There was nothing anywhere else.  By 4 AM I could hear stations in the UK on 20 m and between then and about 10 AM I was able to contact more UK stations (32) than ever before.  I thought this was a good sign that there would be lots of stations from eastern Canada during the afternoon but this was not the case and I was only able to contact VE9RAC, VE1RSM, VA2WA, VE3EJ, VE5MX and VA5DX and only 5 VE7 stations to the south.  I made 51 contacts in total, 8 on 40 m and 43 on 20 m.
It is a pleasure to be able to take part in this contest.  I learn something new about propagation and operating every time.  Several times this year I was amazed that a station came back to me because the signals were so weak that I thought there was no chance that I would be heard.  I really appreciated the patience and courtesy of other operators and the friendly nature of so many of the exchanges.  It was a privilege too, to be able to operate as an HQ station as VY1RAC. 
My station is a Yaesu FT-ONE with a doublet antenna.  I use SD for logging and find it works very well for me.  I have attached a couple of pictures that I took on the beautiful Sunday morning after the contest, one of the station and the other of my QTH.  The support pole for the centre of the antenna is just to the right of the house.
