Well that was good therapy!
Having only been out of hospital for less than a week after a serious illness, I didn’t have the energy for a serious assault on the contest but equally I did feel fit enough to take part for some hours. I entered the 12-hour section and tried to time my operating to maximise QSOs with VK and ZL – and to have a good night of sleep in the middle. CW is quite relaxed – I don’t think I could have coped with an SSB contest.
Thanks to those of you who messaged me or sent me cards when I was in hospital and to those of you who said that you were pleased that I was back QRV.
The disadvantage of firing on only three cylinders was that I had to sacrifice some of the contest and that meant that I stopped early evening on Saturday and came back at 6am on Sunday. I missed lots of 80m and 40m QSOs – particularly with Canada and with many of those who had travelled to activate interesting countries.

We are still at a very low point for sunspots but I thought conditions were possibly slightly better than in recent years; for example, propagation was pretty good both LP and SP and there were new stations to be worked in the last few hours too.
The Tesla contest again made it difficult to find clear frequencies but was gone when I came back in the morning.
Many thanks for all the QSOs and hopefully I will be up for a more concerted effort in 2021.
