Not the best of conditions!

A clash with Mother’s Day meant a compromise with operating strategy, so worked what I could, when I could.

Came to the conclusion that I hear better than I radiate. 3B8VV was readable on 80 but couldn’t make myself heard. Woke up to late missing sunrise by 20 minutes, could hear ZL6HQ solid copy on 80m though well after sunrise but again not even a QRZ.

A struggle at the end to find new stations before my 12-hr limit was up

Nice relaxed contest though which is made all the more enjoyable by the travellers and DX who make an effort to be QRV.

Balunmasters:

  • G3WRR
  • G4WGE
  • G4CZB
  • G7LII

Nootka Sounders:

  • VE7ZO
  • VE7WO
  • VE7JKZ
  • VE7XF
  • VE7JH

Don’t forget the new rule – if you are assisted, you may self-spot. This may not be necessary given the RBN coverage, but has proven to make a difference in CW contests.

Most of all have fun…

This from Raoul ZS1C at 1917 today….

Hi Collin, and Stew,

The team that we have confirmed as to now:

The team so far :

ZS1C Raoul Division 1 South Africa

5Z4VJ, Andy Kenya,

ZS2M Rudi Division 2 South Africa

3B8XF Nigel Cawthorne (G3TXF operating from Mauritius) (His radio partner will only do 80m,so he is excluded)

Then I have asked V51YJ , Andrew, but have not heard back from him.

So please do announce, we had not discuss the name but Team Africa was mentioned.

Your input is welcome!

Kind regards,

Raoul ZS1C

Raoul also reports that “Brian 9j2bo will only play a bit and dish out points”

Team World Travellers Plus – Press-gang

Hi Stew

After suffering a team member licencing challenge and some African headhunters, Team World Travellers is one member light. So in accordance with common practices on the Caribbean islands, Team World Traveller Plus is now open to a non-traveller ‘volunteer’ to make up a whole team. Remote islands preferred 😊

Terms:

  • Fair pay and rations including fresh veg and salted beef
  • Time off for good behaviour (but only after 10:00 UTC Sunday)
  • I accept bribes

A few emails have also gone out too

Thanks

Colin (Bligh) ZF2CA

HQ Station List

12 Thursday Mar 2026

Here is the list of HQ Stations which have been notified to us as being active in the Commonwealth Contest 14-15 March 2026:

  • G6XX (G4FNL@G0DWV)
  • GI6XX (GI4DOH)
  • GM6XX (GM3WOJ)
  • GW6XX (GW0ETF)
  • GB5CC (GU4YOX)
  • VE1RAC (VE1RSM)
  • VA2RAC (VE2FK) thanks Claude
  • VA3RAC (VE3KG)
  • VE3RHQ (VE3FFK)
  • VE7RAC (VA7KH) thanks Steve
  • VK1WIA (VK2DA)
  • VK2WIA (VK2PN and VK2WQ)
  • VK3WIA (VK3GK)
  • VK4WIA (VK4SN)
  • VK5WIA (VK5GR)
  • VK6WIA (VK6RZ)
  • VU2ZH (VU25EE)
  • ZL6HQ (ZL3AB)

Many thanks to the amateurs who are activating these stations. There is an award for the highest HQ score, so they have a competition category of their own.

When you work these stations, remember to log “HQ” after the serial number that you are given, which you may miss if you are too hasty to complete a QSO. It is likely that there will be other HQ stations QRV but these are the ones that we are aware of today. You may find it handy to keep a list of these so you can check-off each band on which you manage to work.

I will try to post a similar list of team members, but am waiting to hear about a couple of entries.

Have fun and see you in the Contest. Don’t forget, if you are entering an “assisted” section, you may “self-spot”: assisted entries may spot their own station on the DX cluster. Self-spots may be made when first soliciting QSOs on a new frequency and thereafter no more frequently than every 10 minutes – see this year’s rules for full details of changes. 73 Nick G4FAL (M5DX)

PS – Please let me know any additions and I will highlight them in the list so you can update your checksheets.

An unexpected change of circumstances means I’m now available next weekend! In the absence of any other takers I’m happy to operate GW6XX from my modest station so we will have a Welsh HQ station available for those that can hear me.

See the post on February 11th for the other UK HQ stations.
